University of Virginia - Ivy Stacks Expansion

The project is an addition of 11,000 sf of movable library file storage, doubling the size of the original precast building. Needham DBS was brought on board as a specialty tilt-up engineer for design and detailing of the tilt-up panels.

Through early design involvement with the University architectural team and partnership with the general contractor, Nielsen Builders, Needham DBS was able to steer the project toward a cost effective, yet architecturally appealing, composite insulated wall panel using the IconX shear connector.

The 45’ tall panels feature an alternating pattern of reveals and textured formliners.

The project marks the first use of tilt-up at the historic campus of University of Virginia.
